Ajax Amsterdam vs Tottenham
Oops, that was a pinch for Ajax in the second half in London. But what a wonderful result the Amsterdammers achieved, especially in the first half, who were at times lord and master in the London football temple where the smell of paint is still hanging around. And it was Donny van de Beek who provided the highlight. Think of it as a reward for the young player who has been in top form for weeks, but still wants to be underestimated.
In the second half, after Jan Vertonghen’s dreadful failure at the Spurs, Tottenham Hotspur had the best of the game. The Londoners kept the field wide, which made it difficult for Ajax to resolve situations. Compliments go to the two backs Rose and Trippier, who played excellent. Sissoko deserves the prize for the best substitute of the month. But when Spurs put pressure, every now and then there was room for Ajax.
It is therefore unfortunate that Neres shot the ball on the post. Still, Ajax faces the match in Amsterdam with a good starting point. Does that guarantee a place in the final? No. The earlier game of the Spurs (against Manchester City) has shown how unpredictable football can be.
We think that Ajax can play a draw in Amsterdam: 1-1. And then Van de Beek’s goal turned out to be even more valuable.
