Korea Republic vs Sri Lanka
South Korea successfully opened the Asian zone World Cup qualifying campaign with sweet results. In the second week they will face Sri Lanka as the hosts at Hwaseong Auxiliary Stadium. They aim for the same result in this match on Thursday (10/10).
In the opening game yesterday South Korea appeared as a guest of Turkmenistan. However, that fact did not make them down, but instead won with a score of 0-2 through the actions of Na Song-ho (13 ‘) and Jung Woo-young (82’).
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will play tomorrow’s match as the third task in Group H. So far they have not won points, not even able to score goals, after buried Turkmenistan and North Korea respectively with a score of 0-2 and 0-1. The condition was exacerbated by the results of the trial match where they were crushed with a score of 6-0 by Malayasia last Saturday (5/10).
Three successive bad results are indications that Sri Lanka’s condition is in crisis. A visit to South Korea’s headquarters will clearly worsen the situation, especially if the host has never lost in 5 test matches, 3 wins, namely against Bolivia, Colombia and Australia. Do not forget also that South Korea managed to penetrate the quarterfinals of the AFC Cup before falling from Qatar who finally came out as champions.
The difference in strength between the two national teams is evident after we observe the report card above. For South Korea, this is an opportunity to win a second victory in Group H, as well as chasing their neighbors, North Korea, at the top of the standings. Mathematically, Sri Lanka is indeed one of the weakest participants in this group which is also inhabited by one more country, namely Lebanon.
