PSV Eindhoven vs Heracles Almelo
PSV Eindhoven will host Heracles Almelo in the Eredivisie final match this season. Although the hopes of winning the Eredivisie this season are almost closed but PSV will continue to hunt for victory in this match.
Currently PSV sits second in the Eredivisie standings with a score of 80 points, 3 points behind Ajax at the top of the table. In fact, in the previous week the acquisition of points for the two teams was still equal to 80, but the defeat suffered by PSV over AZ Alkmaar last week made the two teams widened while closing PSV’s hopes of winning the Eredivisie this season.
Mathematically, PSV is actually still able to match the acquisition of Ajax points. However, a considerable difference in goals between the two (Ajax +84 & PSV +70) makes the PSV opportunity closed. The only way for PSV to step over Ajax was to win more than 10 goals over Heracles and in another place Ajax was slaughtered by more than 5 goals by De Graafschap. However, this is impossible to happen which forced PSV to settle for finishing in second place.
Meanwhile, this fight is still very important for Heracles. Sitting at number 7 or the deadline for the European competition playoff with a score of 48 points, Heracles still needs an extra point at least 1 point to be sure to finish in his current position. Heracles is currently only 3 points clear of Groningen in 8th place. Considering Groningen has a better goal difference and will only face the bottom team, Emmen in the last week then inevitably Heracles must be able to at least steal a draw in this match .
Defeating PSV at home is clearly going to be a difficult job for Heracles. Especially with a pretty bad performance lately, losing to AZ Alkmaar and Excelsior in the last two games made Heracles’ move even heavier. However, Heracles can take advantage of PSV’s motivation which has begun to die out. However, it looks like PSV will also be aiming for good results to treat the wounds of their supporters for failing to compete with Ajax this season.
