Le Mans finally received a rare opportunity to host Ligue 1 giants PSG. They were brought together in the last 16 of the Coupe de la Ligue which was planned to be held at MM Arena. The host tried to maintain self-esteem despite mathematically losing class to the visitors.
Le Mans has appeared three times this month with two wins and one loss. The amount was received after falling at home to Le Havre (2-0), then rose against Les Herbiers (1-2) in Coupe de France, and Orleans (3-2) in the Ligue 2 competition.
Meanwhile, PSG have devoured four matches, all of which were swept clean to win, each against Nantes (2-0), Montpellier (1-3), St Etienne (0-4), and Galatasaray (5-0) in The Champions League. This achievement also helped them escape the Champions League group stage, as well as dominate the Ligue 1 standings until the 18th week.
Early 2011 was Le Mans’s last chance to face PSG. At that time they lost 2-0 in the Coupe de France through extra time. This time, the host is predicted to have to work extra hard to stem the trend of PSG victory, especially if two days later they will play again at home to Paris FC. So, Le Mans was also disadvantaged by the schedule.
