River Plate vs Palestino
River Plate will continue their struggle in the Copa Libertadores in Group A’s second match day, where River Plate gained the home advantage to host Palestino at the Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Libe. This match at the same time became the first meeting match for both teams and clearly could be a great experience for Palestino against the River Plate class.
Palestino last played in the Copa Libertadores event in 2015 and finally after more or less struggling 4 years can come back again. Returning to this event also requires a big struggle, where they have to go through several play-off stages. Interestingly enough they beat Independient Medellin then Talleres de Cordoba. In these 2 matches Palestino escaped very emotionally, because it won hard.
However, the real challenge is in this group phase, Palestino on match day first, only to get a 0-1 defeat when they host Internacional RS. In the match Palestino only played defensively and relied on counterattacks, but it was still ineffective to get full points. So that most likely in this match Palestino returned to playing with the same strategy.
For River Plate, they actually got a disappointing result, going to Alianza Lima headquarters to hold a 1-1 draw. Fighting Alianza Lima is actually an easy match, considering Alianza Lima was one of the worst teams last season then River Plate defending champions the Libertadores Cup. It seems like it’s just a matter of luck, but in the game this time it was lucky to be at home and experience and the quality of River Plate were far better. Most likely Palestino will go home with defeat.
